As it happens I am trying to get a group of players who are interested in seeing a RP capable campaign style fan site set up for MWT, if there are enough people with some interest we can easily set up threads, forums, wikies, all sorts of stuff, for keeping track of the character side of things while MWT (and links to battle videos) provide the Mech side of things.

Also played "Das Schwarze Auge" (a german fantasy RPG), AD&D and Shadowrun
After a move, I lost my group and now am reduced to do some solo-play from time to time and, of course, the computer games.
Damn, I miss the old times

At the same time, I don't necessarily like to mix my RP/fantasy with my tactics games (or board games, or card games, or whatever) so I'd probably stick to strict tactical play in MWT. I'll be happy to have the option for it, but I don't know if I'd ever use it.

Couldn't agree more with your post. I've been roleplaying on both sides of the table since the late 80's (Wargames West, anyone?) but when we sat down to play the RPG version of BattleTech, my friends and I found ourselves going through the motions to get to the tabletop tactical portion of giant robot combat. It's one of the things that broadened my appreciation of miniatures, which has only grown since the early days.
Not loving this poll. I would consider myself a long-time RPer, but work and family limit my exposure to one convention every few years. Really looking forward to some tactical MW action on my browser, especially when deployed.

The cards you get in STACS would not be your automatic up-grades, but perhaps considered inventory that is not quite available for some reason. As you build up your money and can pay to install the next latest and greatest pieces then good for you.
I like that this game is being produced and it looks to fill a need for all TT gamers, but I have never thought combat in BT was about Rock'em Sock'em Robots 'til the last mech standing.
Especially for Merc units, they were highly valued machines, that knew when to cut their losses in a battle. Despite us all wanting to be the super hero, the reality would have been, "What's in it for me and can I make a profit, without getting my ass kicked." Remember taking the boring back water garrison duty contracts so you could make some"safe" C-Bills?
Then some one rolled the die for a random scenario and you had to deal with a local uprising and maybe a mech or two... or it got really ugly and you had to deal with a house invasion with some decent mechs and hope the pilots sucked.
That to me was role playing vs just thinking I am McMech Master, rogue pilot extraordinaire.

Edit: One thing to note, though, is that according to the information we have gotten from the Devs, there will be no such thing as a "Global Chat". You can message people on your friends list, but that is it.
