Depends on what bv range i'm looking at

sub 3k bv -
2 Ottscouts
2 Locust - 1E

4.5kish bv range
Grfiffin 1S
Phoenixhawk
Spider
Wolverene

Low 5k bv range:
Centurion AL
Warhammer
Longbow 0W
Charger (stock)

Mid 5k bv range:
Warhammer
Marauder
Crusader
Thunderbolt 5SS

High 5k-6k bv
Zeus - S
Warhammer
Battlemaster
Grashopper

6K+
Zeus - S
Awsome x2
Battlemaster

that's what i've run quite sucessfully in those bv ranges over on megamek.net servers. (3025 campaing timeframe) Yes these lists are unseen mechs but with modification i'm sure i can fiddle with same weight mechs to game the same armor and weapons/engine/heatsink loadouts. that being said 2 more days till Assault mech review.

Mad Cat
Mad Cat
Mad Cat
Mad Cat

And a Battletech writer to figure out how to make that work in canon.

Rethinking again. I can't really do this. I normally work at a company level and I like having 3 very different type of lances.

My TT tournament lances traditionally consisted of:

Archer-S (2xLRM15, 2xSRM4, 2xML)
Hunchback-SP (4xML, 2xSRM6)
Mongoose (3xML)

With the fourth 'mech being either a repetition of one of the above or a Warhammer-D (2xPPC, 2xML).

I'll make my choices based on the map terrain and campaign mission.

Don't like lance vs lance battles. To few options.
I think a lance of Centurions give you enough oportunity - only lacking speed to intercept scouts. Maybe i would trade a centurion for a Vulcan.

It depends on the terrain and mission, but for general purpose combat, 2x Awesome, 2x Grasshopper would be pretty flexible. High in points, though.

For me, having two (or more) of a kind helps me not forget to have them support each other; mechs with radically different movement curves are easy to accidentally separate, and mechs with radically different weapons have a harder time combining fire on a single opponent. Among the strengths of the Awesome and Grasshopper are that their weapons load-outs are not radically different. Unlike a Stalker, an Awesome's main weapons can all easily fire at the same opponent and have the same to-hit numbers, and with the exception of the LRM, the same is true of the Grasshopper.

In the board game, one of the first things I often do is dump the Grasshopper's LRM ammo so it doesn't explode when critted out. I'm looking forward to the modification possibilities in this game.

In this lance, the Grasshoppers' jump jets make them the maneuver element and their close-in weapons let them hammer the enemy from point blank range. The Awesomes are fire support: find a nice hill and blast everything within 18 hexes.

Without Clanner mechs? Hmmm...

1xStalker (7D eventually)
1xSwayback
1xArcher 2K
1xJenner (Heavily modified, SRM4+ammo removed, CT Jump put in RT, extra Jump in LT)

The way I see it, the Stalker and Swayback provide the up-front firepower, with the Archer providing support, and the Jenner just getting all up in my opponent's shit and generally making a nuisance of itself. The extra jumpjet is really just to keep it symmetrical, and while it -could- deliver a solid punch with the SRM-4, I'd rather keep it hopping at maximum- medium range for the lasers.
Woot! Finally got my sig working. My window has to scroll sideways to reveal the link to it, so I had never seen it before. Nice. Wait.. crap. Now I've filled it with -this-.

Warhammer
Marauder
Archer
Shadow Hawk

Because that's what me and my friends actually used in-game, way back in the day. :-)
